The Union Grove Broncos Robotics Teams braved the snow and cold temperatures to compete at the Wisconn Valley VEX Regional Robotics Tournament on January 13, 2024. The annual tournament was hosted by Shoreland Lutheran High School in Kenosha. A special thanks goes to the tournament leadership who pivoted to delay the start of the tournament to allow the snow to be cleared and teams to travel safely.
The two Union Grove teams were named the RoboPhantoms and Wheel Team 6. After eight qualification rounds, Wheel Team 6 placed 12th and RoboPhantoms placed 16th. Wheel Team 6 won the quarterfinal round, but were eliminated in the semifinal round, which is two wins away from going to the state tournament.
Wheel Team 6 was led by Kadyn Barsch (12) and consisted of Nick Miller (12), Blaize Forgetta (12), Caleb Hagemann (10), Carrera Krueger (12), Tyler Paulich (12), and Harley Ranta (11). The seniors will be pursuing engineering degrees at Wisconsin Universities and two seniors enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard as engineers.
The RoboPhantoms was co-lead by Rin Brouwers (11) and Jolene Welch (11) and consisted of Johnny Johnson (11), Every Squires (11), Xavier Stelmachowski (10), and Cole Wicklund (11). Many of these team members will be returning next year to compete again.
Thank you to our sponsors from BSW Electric, Coleman Tool, and Staff Sergeant Travis Patrick and the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Team members are also part of the Society of Women Engineers Club and the International Robotics Honor Society.
